Galbraith and Paul pillows at Room and Board.
Recently, I attended an event at the Room and Board store in Washington, DC with my sister-in-law, Kathleen. The event featured a talk by Liz Galbraith, textile designer and founder of the company, Galbraith and Paul, who has a pillow line exclusively for Room and Board. First of all, can we just talk about how beautiful the Room and Board showroom is? I’ve always wanted to live in their catalog. And now, I want to live in the DC showroom. All four floors. Doesn’t everyone need 57 Family Rooms?
Second, let’s talk about the food. Even the food was pretty. Those lemon and lime bars, pictured in the first photo, were insane. And yes, I ate those first. Actually, it was kind of hard to eat the real food so I stuck to the dessert table. There were no plates so you either had to post up at the food table with a chair and go to town (which I thought about), or take one bite at a time as you passed through. There were really beautiful fabric napkins though, which I appreciated on more than one level.
And back to the real reason we were there. The pillows.
Liz’s presentation showcased the process of creating the hand painted designs on fabric. The whole thing was really fascinating. Here are some behind the scenes photos from the Galbraith and Paul studio:
Can you even imagine the patience involved with producing these patterns and fabrics? I would not be good at it. The print below with the birds is one of my all time favorites.
The only question I wanted to ask was what happens if you mess up? What if you use the wrong color? Or the block isn’t positioned right? Then what? I’m deathly afraid to ask questions in crowds (thanks elementary school) so I didn’t ask. However, someone else was thinking the same thing and asked the question for me. Phew. And here’s the answer. No one gets fired. No one gets in trouble. Instead, all of the mistakes are collected throughout the year and then sold at a huge sale in November at discounted prices. A what? That’s amazing. Road trip to Philly. Who’s coming with me?! What a great way to own a little piece of Galbraith and Paul. Mistakes or not.
Another great way to own a little piece of Galbraith and Paul are the pillows available exclusively at Room and Board. The patterns are on velvet and are a little more modern in design and color. They even sell lamp shades. I’ve already sold a few pillows to clients. Check them out here! Happy shopping!
